Beginner’s Classes

Brown County Forge Blacksmithing Classes

This is a 2-3 hour class covering the basic skills of drawing out, upsetting, hot cutting, quenching, and scrolling. You will have the opportunity to complete a unique project to take home. Past projects have been fire pokers, wall hooks, S hooks, bottle openers, and keychains.

This is a great class for bachelor parties, birthday gifts, anniversary gifts (we’ve had two Iron Anniversaries celebrated at the forge), father-son outings, and company outings. Read more about what Taking a Class is like step-by-step.

Class photos and videos are available on Facebook.

Class size: 1-4 people. This is a great class to take with a friend or relative. There’s plenty of time to integrate the skills, work on your own, and compare your projects.

Class Fee: $120/person paid in advance by check or credit card to reserve your spot.

Contact: Terran at browncountyforge@gmail.com or 812-269-6350 to reserve your date and to have any questions answered.

Gift certificates are available. When you pay the class fee, let Terran know what name(s) you would like on them.

[Terran is] a good teacher. It takes having the gift to do it well. – David B.

Basic Knife Making

Knife Making Classes Indiana

This is a 4-hour class covering the basics of hand-forging a knife from common materials (rebar, railroad spikes). We’ll go through proper hammering technique, hardening, tempering, grinding, and finishing.

You will leave the class with a fully sharpened knife to take home.

Knife Making Class Student Work
